Consultant, Japan - Freelance

Overview

We continue to successfully establish partnerships in Japan and see a great deal of interest and demand for behavioral science solutions in this region. In this role, you will be in a unique position to help further drive the growth and success of BEworks’ impact as we look to expand our services in this region. With the support of our Toronto team, you will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building, and maintaining relationships with clients, and applying behavioral science principles to solve complex challenges faced by our clients. Leveraging your expertise in behavioral science theories, research methodologies, and data analysis, you will provide strategic insights and develop tailored interventions that lead to improved outcomes for our clients.

Your Day-to-Day

As a member of the BEworks team, you will work closely with our colleagues based in Toronto to find and deliver on new opportunities. We recognize that the strength of our team is their diverse backgrounds and areas of knowledge, so we are open to shaping the role in a way that aligns with your specific area of expertise and strengths. While every day may look different, your main responsibilities will be:

Business Development:

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, competitive landscape, and potential opportunities for BEworks

  • Identify and engage with potential clients across industries who can be positively impacted from behavioral science solutions

  • Create compelling client proposals, presentations, and pitches to demonstrate the value of behavioral science

  • Collaborate with our team in the negotiation and contract discussions in securing new client partnerships

Project Execution:

  • Client Relationship Management: communicate with clients in a professional manner that builds lasting relationships

  • Client Discovery: understand our clients’ current state by evaluating data and documentation, as well as meeting with stakeholders

  • Research: support in the gathering and synthesis of key research, including insights drawn from BEworks’ proprietary IP database, as well as support in-field observations or interviews

  • Ideation: generate solutions for client challenges based on behavioral science principles and culturally relevant knowledge of the target population

  • Experimentation Communication: communicate key results from experimental data and answer client questions related to the research conducted and make recommendations based on the data

Team Collaboration:

  • Meet the team and clients outside of regular business hours to accommodate different time zones and schedules

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in the delivery of client projects

  • Communicate with the team and clients regularly

The Science:

  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in behavioral science research and methodologies, continuously expanding your knowledge and expertise in the field

  • Contribute to thought leadership initiatives and delivering presentations at industry conferences as opportunities present themselves

What We Are Looking For

We welcome candidates who have a passion for behavioral science, are analytical problem solvers, and are driven by curiosity and continuous learning. You will ideally be based in Japan working remotely, with the expectation of some work on client sites or in partner company offices. We do our best to limit the frequency of irregular calls and work flexible hours in Toronto to accommodate our clients and team members globally. However, occasional meetings outside of regular work hours may be required. Overall, we are looking for the following background and skills:

Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent is required, preferably in one of the following areas: economics (empirical, experimental, or micro), psychology (preferably experimental, social, cognitive, or consumer), statistics, computer science, mathematics, judgement and decision making, public health or political science (with emphasis on empirical work), marketing (consumer behaviour).

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in behavioral science, economics, psychology, or a related field; a PhD would be an asset but is not necessary

  • Fluent in English and Japanese

  • 2+ years of experience in business development and client management

  • Excels in relationship building and networking with an ability to generate new client leads and deliver compelling client pitches

  • Strong business acumen and a strategic thinker who can navigate between the management of business relationships with clients and the application of behavioral science solutions

  • Strong research methods capabilities and statistical knowledge is an asset

  • Ability to analyse and visualize data is an asset

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and research effectively, both verbally and in writing to various audiences

  • Strong organization and time management skills to manage multiple projects

  • High energy, self-starter who possesses a strong commitment to excellence

  • Comfortable working with team members from the head office in different time zones

  • Travel will be required
